WOOHOO....

Here is the Nut Thief completed.

Just experimenting with my fur techniques and new brushes I made for it. Along with learning to paint non-animal things...ie the tree!

The original size of this is:
3191 pix X 4166 pix (10.5" x 13.75") 300 dpi

I will make him available for prints shortly for those who may want to have a Nut Thief

Thanks for looking

Aww look at this guy... man, he does look mischevious!!! I'm especially impressed with how you did the bark... it looks so 3D! Can't wait til you finish it :D

Thanks...I struggled with the bark.
I seem to have a hard time with inanimate/non-animal subject matters.
I guess it is all about practice and just doing it

I hope to finish it by friday.
Ooooh! This is gonna look great!
I can see the thief sneaking into MY house and stealing MY nuts.... ahh... wait... no.

hehe...that would be a little strange for a Valley Gurl to be saying a squirrel will be stealing her nuts!
:p

And thanks! I hope to be done by friday
Very awesome, I LOVE this peice! There's so much expression in it!

May I offer one critique? I think this peice is awesome, but I think that the use of flat black in the eyes detracts from the realism. If a deep dark blue were used instead, there would be a lot more life in it, more like the shade in the nose. With the rest of the peice so lifelike and realistic the black is really flat, and doesn't quite "fit" with the rest.

That being said, I think this peice shows an amazing amount of talant and hard work. Great job!
Thank you Storm.
Actually the small size does not do the eyes any justice (when I upload the final it will be much larger)

The image is a lot darker than it really is for some reason. The eyes do have a lot of depth and there is very little black them...mostly browns - varying shades - mostly dark, some blue and pink. I will try to get a close up save of the eye.

Thanks again. I am learning a lot from doing this piece...mainly how to paint a tree! And nailing down my fur technique.
It's probably just my computer, I sometimes forget Laptops aren't the best for color ranges! For some reason it reads as one shade of black with white highlights; it bothered me so much I just had to say something, especially with how much I just love the texture and feel of the rest of it!
Which is funny, cuz a lot of time I'll be doing an animal/person pic and yet the inanimate background is the easiest part...
but the bark really does look great!

I am glad you said something. I too forget that not all computers/monitors display the same. So on some it will look ok and other dark/black. Maybe I will go back into the eyes and try to make them less black/dark looking to make up for dark monitors.

Thanks again for the heads up.
SWEET!
Aaaahhh yeah!
Can I have one of these cute squirrels... on my mantel? Mwwwahahha
